Hitachino makes a few nice beers, though it sounds like they're easier to find in export territories than at home. I particularly liked the Lacto/Sweet Stout and the Red Rice Ale.

Thanks for making the trip to our Pub! Your excuse to comeback to Montreal would be the first week of June where the Montreal "Mondial de la Biere" beer fest takes place. Amazing times I guarantee you. And hey Hopjuice, thanks for your comment on the Ochamena Bi-Ru (green tea beer)! Hagen Dazs macha Ice Cream is pretty freakin good so I'm flattered! I'll be in Japan this next Summer and I'll bring more beer for sure! Cheers! Kanpai! Luc Lafontaine.

Actually the Hobgoblin chain isn't owned by the brewery anymore, though the chain still uses the Hobgoblin name:

It's quite funny Diageo promoting black and tan - it's not a common drink in Ireland, and even in Britain where the style originated, it's not common. In Japan, Half and Half - a stout and a lager - is very common though.

Hub in Japan do dual brand glasses with Hub on one side and Ale House on the other. I wouldn't recommend going there while you are in Japan though - the beer is awful.

Luc from Dieu du Ciel brought a bunch of his beers to Japan back in August. Very good they were:

They even brewed a beer with Japanese green tea - tasted very like Haagen-dazs Green Tea ice-cream. Lovely it was.

Not familiar with other dual-branded glasses (aside from a non-beer sponsorship) -- but this one has a clear purpose.

The intent of this glass is to encourage bartenders and patrons to switch their "black and tans" from a Bass Ale base to a Harp Lager base. The latter concoction doesn't really work as well, but it's all in the family for Diageo.

Happy New Year to all.

I'd guess the glass was intended to be used for a Black & Tan ... You'd have each logo visible next to the respective brew that way ...

I haven't seen dual branding on a glass but was recently served a Guinness in a Pilsner glass (and labelled as such) - has a moment of confusion before realising it was the bar staff, not I that had the problem.

Better than walking, get one of the excellent public bikes that can be found around the streets for a small fee. It's a shame I never managed to visit the brewery on my single visit to Copenhagen. I was too busy with the Junior Eurovision Song Contest.
